Hey everybody, can you believe we’re halfway through NaNo already??? Where the hell has the time gone?
I’m almost on track; current word count of 23,088, so should make it to the necessary 25K by the end of the day.
Of course, as always seems to be the way, several other projects have been thrown in my path, trying to distract me, and yes, I have definitely been distracted. However, unless something definite happens, I’m hoping to remain on track.
Is the novel actually any good though? I honestly still have no idea. I hope so. I really, really hope so—I wouldn’t be writing the story otherwise. But I don’t think it will be until I am able to give it a good scrub and polish that I’ll be able to decipher if it is a diamond in the rough, or just a plain rock.
Several people have offered to look at it for me (and thank you, you know who you are) but I NEVER allow anyone to see a WIP until it is exactly how I intend it to be—something that has prevented me joining crit groups. How can anyone judge my work when it is not how I want to it to be?
How is everyone else getting on? Are you enjoying the whole experience or has it been a nightmare? On track, way ahead, or falling waaaaay behind? I’d love to hear your stories!
I don't think we're supposed to know just yet. As long as we're having fun with it, though, that's the way to go!
ReplyDeleteI'm doing well with my book, a little bit ahead, but I'm always that way because I'm terrified of falling behind.
Hi Jen, I've read some people being amazingly positive about what they've written. I don't know if it is just me, but I am always filled with some form of doubt that my work is flawed in some way.

Great job keeping up with NaNo!! I'm around 4800 behind right now. :( I can make that up in a day if I can find the time to write. I'm exhausted after giving an in-service on descriptive writing to over 200 middle schoolers today. :) Let's see if I can still write a couple thousand words tonight. :)
ReplyDeleteI would never let anyone read my first draft. It's hard enough to get through it with the old internal editor ringing in when you least expect it or want it.
ReplyDeleteI'm still plugging away with NaNoWriMo, having a blast and haven't lost too much of my hair. For me, just the thought of catching up with writing I should have finished earlier this year keeps me going strong.
Wendy--I know you've not let on what your current word count is because you don't want to make the rest of us look bad! I am in awe with the amount you pump out in such a short space of time.
ReplyDeleteCiara--keep going! Even if you finish a few thousand words behind, it is still a huge achievment to write 40-odd-K in a month. Life always throws things in the way!
I love it when I've finished the first draft, because then I feel I can properly write the book. Doesn't make sense, but there you are.
